Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) Injection Systems
Amerex offers several types of Activated Carbon Injection Systems (ACI) to control mercury and dioxin-furan emissions.
For smaller usage applications requiring activated carbon injection rates of up to 6 pounds per hour, Amerex furnishes a bulk bag ACI system. These systems are furnished with an electric hoist and trolley used to charge 900 lb. bulk bags of powdered activated carbon into the system’s feed hopper. From the feed hopper, the material is dispensed into the pneumatic conveying line using a gravimetric feeder, an eductor nozzle and a pneumatic conveying blower. The units are furnished complete with the bulk bag hoist and trolley, monorail structural support frame, feed hopper, pneumatic conveying equipment, instrumentation and controls. The system can also be furnished with redundant feeding and conveying equipment if required.
For mid-range applications requiring carbon feed rates up to 40 pounds per hour, Amerex provides a system that uses the same bulk bags and charging method described above, but the system includes a storage hopper with a holding capacity of five (5) bulk bags. The hopper is equipped with level indicating switches to advise the operator when refilling is required and a dust collector with exhaust fan to control dusting during hopper filling. The system is furnished with redundant material dispensing and conveying systems, a sheeted weatherproof enclosure with man-doors, lights, ventilation equipment, instrumentation and controls.
For larger applications, Amerex provides an ACI system with a storage silo, where the powdered activated carbon is received in bulk trucks and unloaded pneumatically into the silo through a fill line. In this design configuration, the silo is furnished with a lower skirted section that houses the material dispensing and conveying equipment. Removal efficiencies of 95% for mercury and over 99% for dioxin-furans can be attained.
